Alang in Gujarat is one of the largest ship-recycling yards in the world. Machinery and electronics removed from recycled ships reach the market as used spares. Many are in good working order. Some are not. The difference is in what you ask for before payment.
1. Photos of the actual unit
Ask for photos of the exact unit you will receive: nameplate, all sides, connectors, and any wear surfaces. A catalogue image tells you nothing about condition.
2. The full nameplate data
Maker, type, part number, serial number and rating. Compare them with the unit you are replacing, not only with the drawing.
3. A defined condition grade
"Reconditioned" means different things to different sellers. Ask what was opened, what was replaced and what was tested. We use three grades: New, Refurbished and Tested Used, each defined in writing.
4. A test, and its result
For machinery: a bench run, pressure test or NDT where it applies. For electronics: power-up and I/O or function test. Ask for the result, a photo or a short video.
5. Written terms before payment
The quotation should state grade, warranty, dispatch date, packing and who pays freight. Pay only to the bank details on that quotation.
We follow this checklist on every unit we sell. Send your part number on WhatsApp and you will get photos, grade and test before you pay.
